Nick Granville
Nick Granville is a renowned New Zealand guitarist, composer, and educator whose dynamic style blends bluesy roots with groove-driven jazz and melodic sophistication. Born in Wellington, New Zealand, he holds a Master’s degree with first-class honours in jazz performance from the University of Auckland. Over the course of his career, he has performed with international greats such as Mike Stern, Dave Weckl, Joey DeFrancesco, Kurt Elling, Eric Marienthal, Steve Smith, Bob Mintzer, Dick Oatts, Alex Sipiagin, Lalah Hathaway, Chris de Burgh, Ronan Keating, Delta Goodrem, Annie Crummer, and Sir Dave Dobbyn, to name but a few. He was a featured musician on New Zealand’s Dancing with the Stars for five seasons and regularly works with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Wellington, Auckland Philharmonia, and Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.He has performed numerous theatre productions, serving as the main soloist on hit shows such as We Will Rock You - Queen, Mamma Mia, Hairspray, Les Misérables, Wicked, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Wedding Singer. He also performed live soundtracks to West Side Story, The Holiday, Love Actually, and hit video game Stardew Valley.A prolific recording artist, Nick has released several albums under his own name -including Home, Refractions, Wishful Thinking, and Round the Bend - and has led his groups across major jazz venues and festivals in New Zealand and abroad. He has recorded in top studios around the world, including Capitol Studios and United Recording in Los Angeles, as well as premier studios in Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin. In 2017, he recorded the album ReAMPED at Kronos Studios in Los Angeles with Benjamin Shepherd (bass), Dylan Elise (drums), and drumming legend Gary Novak as engineer. Granville is also a longtime collaborator with the Rodger Fox Big Band and a founding member of the Wellington Jazz Orchestra.Alongside his performing career, Nick is a passionate educator, having taught at the New Zealand School of Music and regularly presenting workshops nationwide. He maintains an active online presence and runs a successful YouTube channel, continuing to inspire musicians around the world through performance, recording, education.
